The end of the year is naturally a time for reflection, resolutions, and planning for the future.
It’s also a period that leads into one of the busiest times for hiring and resignations.
January has become synonymous with “new beginnings”, another opportunity to follow the dreams and plans that were disregarded or forgotten the year before.
It’s probably why it sees 28% more hiring activity than the average month, second only to September, according to LinkedIn data from 2022.
So, as we approach 2025, do social workers feel the same pull towards change?
A Community Care poll of nearly 500 social workers revealed that 40% plan to stay with their current employer.
However, nearly a third (32%) intend to seek new opportunities, whether within the same organization (11%) or elsewhere (21%), and a worrying 28% said they planned to leave the sector altogether.
What are your professional plans for 2025?
Celebrate those who’ve inspired you
For our 50th anniversary, we’re expanding our My Brilliant Colleague series to include anyone who has inspired you in your career – whether current or former colleagues, managers, students, lecturers, mentors or prominent past or present sector figures whom you have admired from afar.
Nominate your colleague or social work inspiration by filling in our nominations form with a letter or a few paragraphs (100-250 words) explaining how and why the person has inspired you.
