I am a NQSW based within an NHS Hospital Discharge team. I’ve been in post for just over 3 months and already have had opportunities present themselves for career progression (AMHP, Practice Educator and Senior Practitioner), so although empathetic and understanding of your experience, I think it can vary from organisation to organisation.

In my experience the multidisciplinary team approach works well.
But let us not forget that NHS-employed social workers do not get the same career development training opportunities as those employed by local authorities.
I find this frustrating – as someone who has worked for the NHS for the past 10 years.
There needs to be parity of funding, and hence equal opportunities to progress.
