This is my experience as well but it doesn’t matter if one is black, white or sky blue pink with yellow dots, only that one is either in the in group who are also normally brown noses.

If one actually advocates for service users, one gets seen as a pain in the derrière and gets passed over for career progression.

This may not be true everywhere but I have worked in lots of teams and have observed this unfair behaviour but it hasn’t been based on the colour of the person’s skin.

What’s needed is a national commendation scheme, so that all social worker who do outstanding work are recognised, rather than competing against each other.

In reply to Deluxe Gibraltar. There is no career progression for black social workers .I retired in 2021 after 14 yrs after qualifying but had worked in the authority for 24 years ,but white colleagues asye friends with managers made deputies.
