Emma’s poem is part of our Dear Future Social Worker series of letters of advice from current staff and leaders to tomorrow’s practitioners, a key element of Community Care’s Choose Social Work campaign.
The campaign aims to champion the brilliant work social workers do every day, inspire the next generation of practitioners, and counteract the negative media coverage of the profession.
Read about why we’re launching this campaign, and the five steps you can take to support it.

A brillant poem … so so true …
Well done Emma you managed to cover so much in such a small space …. I’m so proud of you.
And none strike, take action for better conditions and pay but neither are they heard of unless there is blame to say
How beautifully written and how true. Hard to read, hard to hear yet beautiful and inspiring at the same time. Those are words that resonate with all of us, social workers, old and new. Thanks so much for sharing, Emma.
I only wish I was as skilled to be able to capture a whole vocation in a few paragraphs. An amazing poem Emma, thank you so much for sharing.
Love to hear this read to council leaders and tory politicians…
Love this ! ❤️
