We need this in England, Child Protection is dangerously understaffed due to working conditions, caseloads are a huge part of this. I work in a supposedly very good LA, and the current SWs here do a brilliant job at masking the really risky situations that happen everyday, if it weren’t for the goodwill, and dare I say, lack of self are, many more worrying things would be happening where I work. The seniors are pretty good, but allow the ongoing cheap brand band aids to cover gaping wounds. CAP CASELOADS! We are the only social/health profession who don’t declare a state of emergency or create a waiting lis when things are unmanageable.

This is a great step toward workplace wellbeing and will enable employers to recruit and retain social workers for team stability – which will in turn provide a better quality service for the person. Radical reform is required in both Adult and C&F Services as both areas have exhaustingly high caseloads which add pressure to the allocated social worker. Presently in Adult Services it is a challenge to implement relationship-centred social work due to the demands of allocating cases from waiting lists which is impacting on staff morale and consequently on the intervention timeframe, which has a negative effect on the people we serve.
