But might the shortage of data be deliberate ?

It is impossible to find out the definitive number of adoption breakdowns, yet now two successive governments have had adoption as the most permanent and therefore best placement as permanency usually most important legal criteria for welfare under CA.

The reason being that when a baby/child leaves care and is adopted, to protect privacy he/she is given a new identify reference and therefore if he does get put back in care because of adoption breakdown it is impossible to trace it was the same child.

This was why the Bristol University study on breakdowns was so unreliable.

Does anyone know if this has now been remedied ??

Well said Gillian… just because there may be no validated research completed on a particular area (yet), it doesn’t mean that a problem doesn’t exist. Absolutely right. And it happens in many other areas of social policy. The government seems to believe that If the data isn’t gathered and the statistics are only partial, providing no comprehensive overview, then the problem doesn’t exist. This is a shameful way of running a country and will lead to more and more misery and social breakdown.

I wonder if any government ministers or senior civil servants responsible for LAC policies have been in conversation with the Public Health Institute about the Adverse Childhood Experiences studies? Perhaps spending money on care placements is more politically acceptable than spending on prevention?
