Good luck with this. I was recruited as an experienced and highly skilled social worker returning to practice. The experience has been horrific. No induction, poor and inadequate supervision, a complete lack of effective leadership at team manager level, a rigid and centralised bureaucracy coupled with the most inaccessible and process driving electronic recording system I have ever encountered. I have been told, and experienced, no allocation meetings, no transfer process, CP case conferences that fail to follow a clear child centred protocol that examines protective and risk factors despite the introduction of such procedures. One CP conference was chaired in a way I have never seen in 20 years of practice, no reading time, no analysis of risk poor involvement of the parent and a 2 line plan which had no specific goals or timescales.
My skills and experience have been ignored at best and derided by managers who are younger with less PQ experience. I am told my office is ahead of the game! I had no idea SW practice had fallen to such an appalling level in Gloucestershire and cannot wait to get out.
