People who speak more than one language can lose their second one as their dementia progresses. For most black British people their first language is English, but their second (or third) langage is often the one more closely related to their culture. It can be the language of their religion, their childhood stories or their favourite songs, and to lose that is significant and this can be missed if the client appears to be communicating well in English.
